I would think that planets around white dwarfs would have had a bad time when those stars became white dwarfs.

I really wish we would stop using the term Singularity. It's an overloaded term that has lost all meaning IMHO. Projecting a trend without discussing the underlying conditions that affect it isn't very useful.
