I have loved and listen to elliott smith for at least a decade (probably closer to 2!) I write and record music myself... every time I go back to him, he blows my mind. His songwriting was amazing. His use of harmony is just impeccable. His ability to double track vocals. And to be honest, damn near every instrument is just mind blowing. ( I swear there is a double tracked electric bass on XO. How he did that without phase issues is just bonkers.)
How he's not more recognized is crazy to me, but then maybe it makes sense in how great artists are not truly recognized until long after their death.
