4/5 of my neighbors would pull into my driveway and confront any suspicious activity. I would do the same. No need to draw a weapon unless the "theif" is a threat, but you better believe i have one on me.

I mean i dont even hate rutland. I just recognize what it is, based on my experiences there. Your analogy is a stretch.

I meam, generalizing an entire population of people, based on their skin color, is extremely different than forming an opinion on a town based on experiences, and friends experiences there...but sure, go against the status quo buddy, love rutland, someones gotta.

Id just stop taking it personally if i were you. Most people i know (including vegas residents), think its a shithole. Doesnt mean you're a shitty person.

All im saying is ive never had the inspection sticker stolen off my car in my home town, 25 miles away.
You seem very defensive of rutland...im not attacking you personally, i have friends in rutland snd hang out there sometimes. But it is objectively shittier than the surrounding towns.

Rutland is only more of a shithole than many of its neighboring towns. On a national scale its not bad.

My experience as a hunter has been the opposite. My circle strives for safety, ethical/clean kills, and we never shoot outside of season. Its important not to lump everyone with a rifle in the same category. Some of us just want to put food on the table.

Listen, if people want to kill themselves, as tragic as it is, theyre going to do it. Id rather a clean bullet to the head, than forcing some poor volunteer to carry my body out of the quechee gorge...
As far as self defense, generally not needed in my neck of the woods...nope. my rifles are locked in a safe waiting for hunting season. However as a child free, responsible gun owner, i see no reason that someone can dictate where my guns live...the rifle that used to sit next to my bed at my old house, never committed any crimes, or made its way into the wrong hands...
Furthermore, vermont has been historically very lax on guns, if you dont want to live in a state like that, my personal advice would be to move to Massachusetts or ny.

Guess the vt sub hates guns...it'll be an interesting conversation when they actually meet the locals. Vt has more guns than any of the surrounding states, and virtually no gun violence. This is not what we need to be worried about. How about some housing?

Not common sense at all. We have very little gun violence. Open carry is silly to remove when we have constitutional carry, the only people walking around with rifles are hunters during hunting season...guess i cant walk along the side of the road after finishing up in the woods now?
10 day waiting period is fine, the rest are obsurd.

As someone who grew up in said small vermont town, with family members on said select boards, i see your point.
However the corruption still exists. You can find it right in the town report if you do a little research on some of the local family trees.

My town guys work 4 10hr days whenever possible...4hrs of overtime every week on 40hrs...
Wouldnt be an issue if the roads didnt still SUCK.
Its just frustrating because we have the tax dollars for nice infrastructure, it just doesnt go to that.

Yup you nailed it, everyones related. Its a bunch of drama. I wouldnt care if they were responsible with my tax dollars, but the work bids that get accepted are absolutely ridiculous.
A culvert replacement recently went to bid - lowest came in at 21k, highest 35k....guess who won? 35k guess who is also the brother of the treasurer? Yup...

I mean thats kind of how life works right? Either you aquire skills through experience, schooling, or both. The trades seems to pay better than most industries, even for inexperienced workers. We had unskilled labor handing us tools all summer for 20/hr...compared the most other unskilled labor in my area at 15-18.

The majority of class 4 roads are snowmobile trails in the winter. Be prepared for a massive tow bill, and a lot of pissed off locals. Also we currently have no snow anyways.

Edit: guess we do have unions. i subcontract. Investment in tools was minimal since i had most of them from building my first two houses.
If i were to do it again id go pull wire for an electrician and work on getting certified. Easy clean work, lowest investment as far as tooling goes.
