I’ve had tremendous success with making compost in my yard. I use coffee grounds, orange peels and any weeds or yard waste. I’m slowly filling it in with native plants. I let clover grow where it will. I’m letting some “weeds” grow in patches like sweet grass and yarrow.

I’ve lived in two homes now with yards that were essentially dead. I suspect the prior owners abused the yards with chemical fertilizers, weed killers and pesticides. It takes a year or two to heal the soil but oh my god, is it with it. Soil is made of rotting things. I don’t know how we forgot this.
