Long-time Doublewide patron. I think the quality has significantly declined in recent years unfortunately

Does this place live up to the hype? I still haven’t been. I often go to Lincoln’s P&G diner in Millvale for a frame of reference. Worth the drive to Wilkinsburg from the Northside?

Do I? No. Should I? Yes. Definitely can’t hurt, especially if you just replace your moisturizer or toner with one with SPF. But I also don’t moisturize. My dermatologist would hate me if I had one…

Most definitely

Dine-in: 20% minimum
Counter service: throw ‘em what you can, especially if it’s a big or complex order—I usually do 20% because it makes me feel good to be generous, but I think a couple bucks is probably fair
Delivery: I would do at least $5, especially with so many places replacing employees with gif workers for delivery.
This is my take. I’m sure others will disagree but I used to wait tables for $2.83 an hour (minimum wage was $7.25 at the time) so I value tipping pretty highly.

Yes, use those plastic sheets. I have decent windows but I was still surprised to see how much of a difference it made to cover the windows.

Yes. Energy prices are up, and you are using a lot more. I had to turn my thermostat down to 67 during the cold snap because it was just running non-stop to keep the house at 68.
Call the gas company. They may be able to help you set up a budget plan. Natural gas is just more expensive than it was earlier this year, and that plus the cold weather has those bills way up.

I had a coworker who lived there and had to kayak to her car to drive to work every day.

Fellow atheist here (and also anti-consumption). I’ve found it to be very fulfilling to create my own traditions around the Winter solstice. I give simple gifts, make a delicious (vegetarian!) feast for myself and any loved ones joining me that particular year, light a bunch of candles and have as much chocolate, cinnamon, and ginger as possible to stave off the cold.
This year, I added a new one into the mix—volunteering at a shelter, mission, soup kitchen, etc., on Xmas day or Xmas eve. Since that’s not much of a holiday to me, I can give the volunteers who want to celebrate a break.
Just a few ideas. I hope you find a winter holiday tradition that allows you to reflect and look ahead :)

It’s my first post-divorce Christmas, too!
Well, kind of. We’re separated and going through mediation.
I volunteered at Light of Life yesterday and baked a ton. Tonight I’m going to see the ex’s family since I plan on keeping them in the divorce :)
Feel free to DM me if you ever want a fellow divorcée to grab a beer and shoot the shit with. :)
I hope your solo Xmas is wonderful.

I’ve done Thanksgiving Indian Buffet at Taj Mahal on McKnight Rd before. Their takeout is also excellent if course.
[edit: that was a few years ago but I suspect they still do it. It was pretty packed when I was there in 2019]

I like Ds in Regent Square. Vegan options are good if limited, and it’s bar food so the picky eater should be covered.
