I hate patent trolls. Silly user interface stuff like this shouldn't even be patentable, much less by some company that comes out of nowhere and claims that everyone using it owes them money.

They should let you trademark a look and feel of your brand, but not patent a software UI feature, that's not an invention or anything worthy of long-term moat protection no matter how much programmers might want it to be.
