Well, not really a CMP thing here considering they only only control distribution, but a great thing to be pushing for diversified supply! In Maine we are clearly exposed to the Atlantic Ocean and high winds, we should be using it to our advantage. The more options the better, it will only help cut the reliance (and once gouging profits) from the natural gas companies.

I don't feel fucked by CMP, I feel fucked from the supply companies like NextEra and Electricity Maine. The PUC has approved rate increase, after rate increase over the last year totaling over 120%! Why would we take on a multibillion dollar debt when the seizure would still leave us vulnerable to the companies who are responsible for over 60% of our bill and unapologetically jacking our rates left and right?

Just because it is on their website doesn't make it a fact. There are many promises that PTP is making about increasing reliability, lower cost and cleaner energy sources, but at the end of the day they really haven't proven how they will make any of those things happen. A multibillion dollar debt for no proven reward is quite risky. Buyer, beware.

How can you be so sure they will focus on clean power when PTP will have no more control over the supply source than CMP or Versant? Not to mention that PTP was designed after LIPA which after 30 years is in billions of debt, have rates higher than ours and are far behind in renewable energy efforts. How can we know that PTP would be any different?

Well we are a large rural, heavily forested state with a lot of shoreline that takes a beating, compared to other states that aren't as heavily forested or as much shoreline that would make sense! Historically I have always been on the last of the restoration efforts, but I was only without power for 24 hours. I was really impressed and grateful to CMP's linesmen, especially over the Holidays.
