i don't think you need to be, only if you wanted to book the courts, but not for the clinics. i know he does private/group lessons too. he's a good guy who has been around forever, highly recommended. i have no idea what he currently charges though but back when i was a student, i think each hour long clinic was like $5, i left boston ~15 years ago after finishing my fellowship.

i tell beginners/intermediates to watch the videos on youtube by the user "fuzzy yellow balls". it's all free on yt and excellent.
maybe do some group lessons or clinics. mike mercier at harvard has them everyday at the murr center at the main harvard athletic complex in allston, i don't think you need to be an affiliate to join.

it's an incredibly small town that is easily walkable. feels very european, too. not sure where you lived in nyc, but think cobble hill in brooklyn.

Have youe ver been to Cambridge? maybe you should visit to get a feel for it before making such a drastic life decision. You can live anywhere in Boston proper or Cambridge,a nd many of the suburbs without a car.

holy crap thanks so much for letting me know! i don't live in boston anymore, but i'll be sure to check it out for my regular two dishes i loved there.. i only went to the fenway location once, my favorite one was on comm ave in brookline because it had outdoor eating, but beggars can't be choosers.
there was another place on harvard St in bline, i forget its name, but it was also very, very good.

pro tip: there's an upstairs with plenty of seating! it isn't fancy at all but just go up the stairs and enjoy. if you become a regular, they'll give you the wifi password!
i highly recommend their masala dosha.

teaching healthcare facilities do not provide worse care than non-teaching facilities.

you aren't getting subpar care. it's because multiple students work on you and it's incredibly slow with a preceptor going over their every move, then they come back for ~15 mins, do what the preceptor says, then they go back to the preceptor...

yeah. for a cleaning at harvard dental school it is like 5 visits and 2-4 hours per visit, which takes about a month. it's a ridiculous waste of time, but it's cheap, so for the cash poor but time rich, it works out.
i made the mistake of going there once as a med student years ago.

shrug. you can go upstate and get your 2:1 pt ratio but your pay will be half what you get in nyc.

for one example, PT and OT makes a lot less than RNs. they also tend to have doctorates. RNs still have ten years (or is it five?) before they are required to have a bachelors degree, as of now they can still work with a 2 year degree.
also typically it's the aides that "wipe asses", not RNs.
i may agree with you, but i don't think disinformation helps.
RNs in the city make twice as much as RNs upstate (and those RNs have pt loads half what NYC nurses have).
I think nurses should get a raise. Right along with everybody else in the hospital.
I don't think cheap theatrics are appropriate, or charged language.

I have spent my career in Boston and Manhattan hospitals and frankly, healthcare is done better in Boston. Much, much better. And yes the nurses do a much better job there, too. I do think the nurses unions can be a detriment to pt care sometimes. That said, I hope nurses get a ~10% raise. Then maybe residents can get one next, they really need it. I'm an attending, I've seen effective pay decreases.

manhattan (non psych) attending here:
bellevue has a free, walk in mental health clinic that's open weekdays (not sure about weekends). if you go there, best to go in the am, and bring a book and get comfortable. if it's not an acute emergency, live or die, i'd recommend calling mount sinai saint luke's residency clinic, as that's (probably) the better long term option. they do both talk therapy with psychology/social work and med management with resident psychiatrists. not sure their current wait times.

if you go to the ED for a psych complaint, you will not be admitted--(unless you want to and your insurance agrees)--unless you show active suicidal or homicidal intent. that said, you probably don't want to go to the ED with a psych complaint.
