Reply to If you shave, get a shaving handle that uses a simple disposable razor. The razor lasts much longer than anything at your local store and provides a better shave. by bi_polar2bear
Safety razors for the win. I bought my handle nearly a decade ago from a local beauty supply store and paid maybe $5, $10, whatever, the blades are so cheap I literally don’t even consider it a cost when I have to buy some, which is almost never because I do the beard thing. But when I do shave, it’s a far better shave with nearly zero irritation. What little irritation I do get is most likely poor shaving technique on my part. I bought a cheap brush too and it’s lasted just as long. It may be a boars hair but I doubt it. Shaving soaps last a good long time too and are pretty cheap like the blades. It’s both frugal and BIFL.

Yea you landed on it. Pelican or pelican like cases are gonna be the best bet. The other option you can search is “gig case” or “road case”. Those are used in the music world. Those are the options. Look at any pro that travels with any expensive anything, it’s gonna be pelican or road cases. In regards to shipping, yea, that’s right, just build that cost into the operation now. I worked in shipping for 8 years, don’t cheap on important stuff.

What are you talking about? Glue is typically only used in clothing to hold prices until they are stitched. Shoes aside. I don’t anything with glue on it. Is this a female garment thing? It just cheap crap garment thing? I owned a sewing business and even read some industry insider books, I never heard of glue as a fixture, only for holding until sewing.

Clothing is weird for me. Some pieces are the best I can afford while other pieces are the intersection of affordable and durable. Simple breakdown. Feet, spend. I wear smart wool socks almost exclusively or similar brand/quality. All footwear except flip flops is top dollar stuff. Not extravagant. Chaco sandals, Merril, New Balance, 5.10, Keen, etc. Pants and Shorts are the intersection of cheap and durable. For ages the pants/shorts of choice were dickies, now it’s Wranglers outdoor line for shorts and Magellan brand for pants. Shirts are whatever graphic tees, outdoor shirts on clearance, blood donation shirts lol, 6dollarshirts dot com, etc. Jackets, base layers, outdoor gear that can keep me alive, we go back to the top brands. Mountain hardware, Patagonia, Kuhl, Smartwool, etc. Dress nice clothing comes from nicer retailers as I rarely dress up and I will not have threads and flaws at all. I’m a big guy so DXL is my home for dressing nice, Dillards has a good big and tall too. The only items I really expect any real run of time are my work boots, mostly cause I don’t use them anymore, my dress shoes for similar reasons and I work from home now. Outter wear and most outdoor items should either last a while or I buy from brands with lifetime warranties. I’ve legit had some mountain Hardwear pants repaired 3 times now, something different each time, all free, cover the shipping there. Oh yea underwear is hit and miss whatever from Walmart or like TJ max, if I find some I like and can hold up, it’s almost certain I will never find them again so it’s just whatever there but I’d say Hanes would be the ones I land on the most. I’m brand loyal to a point, I’m rough on some items so I balance how much and what the item is and try to make solid purchases.

So I probably never heard the follow up to what I was talking about. It seemed wild at the time but I don’t remember anything after that. I consume a ton of articles and crap, I get stuff mixed up, I don’t follow up. I appreciate the reply and cited sources. The Glasby 2008 reference seems about right for the time I heard something about all that. Btw I also appreciate you not being a dick in your reply as so many folks can be on the ole Reddit. I live in the Texas panhandle, oil, gas, water are all pretty common topics here, but I’m most certainly on the outskirts of knowledge. Thanks again for citing sources to read later.

Wasn’t there something years ago about old pockets had refilled somehow and it changed how we think the oil mechanism works? We thought it was dinosaurs and swaps and bogs + time and that was part of the “we will run out some day” thinking, but then these old pockets had filled back up and scientist weren’t sure how that happened considering we got no more dinosaurs etc. and if I’m remembering right this discovery sort of shook up the whole industry and time lines.

Dad still has his. I have his second generation one bought in the 90s with the variable speed control. Which was a big deal back then. This is rad to see and I hadn’t thought about that drill in forever.
