the purpose of the simulated world is specifically about testing whether we can grow little sim beings who are kind to each other. we're not talking about big simulations here. and the beings we grow in these simulations will be real beings who feel interesting things - they may be able to teach us world-grounded beings like humans and chatbots new things.

so the thing is, current AIs are really bad at knowing whether they're being honest in the first place even in principle; sometimes they may additionally choose to lie. and none of that really has any bearing anyway, because these language models are not the ones that could outsmart the human species as a whole, they're just fragments of ai children, and the aggregate beings are the ones who we'll have to coexist with.
