Only if something is blocking the reboot. If nothing is in the wait of being stopped, you are done.
Not sure why it's such a big deal though... I mean you can press the power button before the reboot to power down the computer. Or hit shutdown on the login screen before logging in.
And BTW, you don't "click" ESC, you hit it, it's on your keyboard...
