I worked for BCDOT for the last three years. That site hasn't been used in about 5 or 6 years. I only got them to take it off the towing website last year. 🙄

The is a big difference between Amtrak on the Northeast Corridor vs elsewhere. Elsewhere, they get delayed by the miles long freight trains that are too big to pull off. That's not an issue on the Amtrak owned Northeast Corridor.

If the democrats supported unions, then they would have let the collective bargaining process work out instead of basically forcing the workers to accept the owner's proposal. The pay bump was agreed on, but the workers wanted more time off, and they really didn't get that. But the politicians and news media played it as a win win.

Politicians like to make us think that our choices are between the Republicans and Democratsb so we keep giving them our attention and money. But once you realize that the real divide is between the ultra wealthy and everyone else, and that both parties are in the pocket of the ultra wealthy, then you start to realize why there isn't as much meaningful change between elections.
And what do the ultra wealthy want? They want police that will use violence to keep the rest of us in check, and put people in cages.
Why do you think that Biden has basically kept Trump's immigration policies, even after that was such a travesty that he campaigned on? Why did Mr Blue Collar Scranton Union guy basically union bust the railroad workers?
Don't be fooled. Both sides are using culture wars so we don't realize what's actually going on.

They use people who have been through the criminal justice system and lived through the worst of what people grow up with in Baltimore. They survive a penal system that is designed to punish, and not rehabilitate. And as we saw with the GTTF, they also have to deal with cops that have every reason to throw them away. And with all of that, you are worried that they might be carrying a gun or might be involved in some drugs?
I guess I see it as one of the hardest jobs in the world, and I am not worried that they aren't choir boys. And they are doing this on a tiny fraction of the budget of the BPD.

I travel between NYC and Baltimore pretty frequently, and go with the train when its a reasonable cost, and use OurBus when its not. OurBus seems to be about $30 each way, and its stop is a block from Penn Station, which beats a lot of the other buses that stop near the beltway. And the bus has never been crowded when I have taken it, which is usually Fridays/Sundays.

If you are willing to wait, the Brooklyn Public Library does have the audiobook. Granted, there are 139 holds on 15 copies.

The Power Broker. But I warn you that its a LOOOOOOOOONG book. I got it from the library, but couldn't get through it, so I am doing the audio book. That's still 39 hours long, but its such a great book that had a lot of original research.

The most frustrating thing about the mta's data reporting is how they report OTP, but completely ignore cut runs. I did a bunch of work with the MTA data a few years ago, and I don't think there was any way to track the number of cut runs unless you pulled all of the real time data and stored it (which I did and still struggled to get a good number).

That's not true. They get a flat rate per camera. You are thinking of the old xerox contract that was terminated in 2015.
maiios t1_j0h7rbr wrote
I worked with the head of the ATVES program and tried to setup even a process where we used safety or crash data to identify places that should have a speed or red light camera. But he is very invested in the 311 request -> test camera -> see if it's profitable enough. Let's just say that there is no issue with profitability, and if the program really is about safety, then we really should roll them out much more widely.
It was mind boggling to be in our Toward Zero meetings talking about people dying in crashes, and how little appetite there was from the ATVES head and DOT director to go that direction. Never made sense to me.
