In the 60s, both the U.S. and the U.S.S.R. installed playgrounds with equipment meant to "foster children's curiosity and excitement about the Space Race." Here's me at the top of a rocket slide in Northeast Philadelphia, 1982.

Yup. Same with litter. You just get the Philly Shrug response. I was just up in Brooklyn where there is literally a million more people and I saw none of these parking/trash problems. I wasn't just in the bourgeois hyper-gentrified areas either.
