And once you get your "to go" lunch, there's a little picnic pavilion on Lake Winnemaug, off Lake Winnemaug Road in Watertown. Peaceful, undiscovered gem and no residency requirement.

Turbos are totally different creatures than my less-than-exotic 2003 manual transmission Baja, which has been my only drive since 2006. Unlike the VWs of my youth, the Subie has never left me on the side of the road dialing AAA. THREE VWs (90s models) did.

It takes a LOT to stop a Subie; unfortunately, you discovered a sure-fire method. Sympathy for what you've had happen and thank you for the warning.

Reply to CT DMV can a car without title over 20 years old be registered if vin report came up as salvaged? by k24dj
Just a word of warning; if you try to register a car that's been salvaged, the inspector is going to go over it with a fine tooth comb. They'll check EVERYTHING and I do mean EVERYTHING. I also believe that you have to have the vehicle towed in to the DMV to have it inspected. Better be sure it's worth that extra hassle. OTOH, a Miata was my dream car when I was in my 20s.

You need to either write down the amount and date paid for your mv tax or download a pdf of the bill; that gives you a credit in the state tax scenario. It was an extra $300 in my son's pocket so worth the effort. The town generally mails out property tax bills in June so you're good. Best of luck; adulting sucks but what sucks worse is having to pay fines for finding out the hard way.

Check and see if you're up-to-date with your car taxes; if you were registered in Danbury until last October Danbury would have taxed you. If you changed your address in October 2022, Newtown would not have sent out a bill yet. Anyhoo, check here: https://portal.ct.gov/dmv/vehicle-services/compliance-issues?language=en_US

Also a FreeTaxUsa user, and it walks you through just like TurboTax does. When searching for your name on the Newtown Property Tax list, make sure to do it several ways...when I looked for my son's payment, I tried first as suggested using last name and first initial - nothing there. Tried using last name and first name, nothing came up. Tried using all caps and BINGO! there it was. FWIW, it's worthwhile getting that motor vehicle tax receipt, because it caused him to get a $314 refund from the state instead of just $14.

Yeppers. Son is an apprentice tool-and-die maker with about 1K hours left on his apprenticeship and when he gets to journeyman status, the (eyelet) world is his oyster. Some of the eyelet manufacturers here in Watertown were giving $10K signing bonuses last year!

It really depends on which side of the river hosts your new employer; focus on that side of the Thames. Oh, and welcome to Connecticut; I already love your accent!

$384; electric heat (efficient heat pump mini-split installed 2020), 1275 square foot log cabin with open loft, LOTS of gaming electronics and computers courtesy of my son. Twice what it was in 2021.

Waterbury Hospital gets a bad rap; granted, the ER on any given evening is an absolute shitshow (6-8 hour wait times), but so are ERs across the country right now. When I had a kidney stone attack (and five subsequent surgeries for same) last year, once I was admitted I couldn't fault the quality of care I received by the entire team, from transport right up to my urologist.
