Get air to air heat pumps, and leave your current boiler right where it is. You will only use it on the coldest days. As far as moving forward, heat pumps are absolutely the future. Mine can physically heat until -19°f and they are going on 4 years old now. I will run my propane boiler in the single digits because the cost is greater to run the heat pumps at those temps. Bonus: you get central air and shoulder season heating is extremely cheap.

EDIT: I just read what you said about needing to replace your current HVAC system for rebates, and I have never heard that before in VT. I would double check that with efficiency VT and GMP.

Not familiar with solar or batteries, but I had a 18kw Generac installed at my house 2 years ago. Whole house, auto transfer switch, 6-8 seconds after the power goes out it comes right back on. SUPER convenient. You wouldn’t know the power was out of you couldn’t hear it running (it isn’t too loud). I piped it myself to cut down on cost, and it was just shy of $9,000 with some extras (first year maintenance, cold start kit, WiFi monitoring). The cost was insane, but when the news was reading potential multi day power outages, the piece of mind it provided was priceless.

I would just build it the old fashioned way. I don’t know why the shipping container craze is a thing, they’re really not crazy cost effective unless you build like a house. Even then, it’s an insane amount of labor, and after it’s done you live in a shipping container lol

Switched to xfinity mobile. Cut my bill by more than half. Me and the wife $62/month after taxes unlimited everything. We were up to $135/month with Verizon. I think they throttle after 20 gb mobile use but I haven’t hit that yet.

Also the rhetoric of “I know insert trade that make six figures” is kind of bogus too. Again, been in the trades my whole life. It’s extremely rare to make that before late career, not living somewhere like NYC, or without insane overtime. Still, a realistic 40k-60k about 3-6 years into a trade with no formal education or training required is NOTHING to sneeze at these days.

Again, career tradesman and have zero regrets. I found a cushy job at a university that pays well and couldn’t be happier. That being said, I have a daughter. She is going to college.

Am 34, tradesman since 16. You are not mentioning the long hours and sometimes travel times, hard labor on your body and an often awful work environment. I also advocate for the trades, but it’s not simply “the same or more pay but no degree needed”. There are pros and cons.

Have lived in Vermont since 09’ (I was 21). I would NEVER do any of the things people have done in this post, it’s crazy to think that people think this is rational. That being said, I’ve always thought Vermonters were too lenient with property rights for this reason- people are disrespectful, entitled jerks. A few ruin the bunch. It’s your property, lord knows you paid (and continue to pay) for it. Do with it as you’d like, don’t feel bad.

I hear you, I was a console gamer growing up (born 88) and never feel comfortable gaming at a desk. My setup is quite elaborate, but I have multiple monitors at a desk for FPS multiplayer gaming, and a TV hooked up to the GPU, a comfy chair and wired controller for single player games.

Do you mean Elden ring? Skyrim the fifth installment of the Elder Scrolls games.

I got the FUSION Xbox controller for pc gaming. It’s wired, I have no need for wireless at my PC. I’ve been so happy with it.
