It's so great, they do an amazing job. My daughter loves the kids area. One of the saddest things about putting her in daycare is that she can't go to their storytime anymore!

On the subject of city services, I absolutely love the Ft Totten Transfer Station. I never thought going to a dump would make my day, but every time it's been a great experience. Employees are friendly, helpful, and I get junk out of my house. Went to Benning Road, since Ft Totten was/is closed, and it was also a good experience

My friend once flew home with 4 carcasses in her suitcase. When she asks for the bones they typically offer to throw in some extra for her, so now when she visits it's a serious consideration how much extra suitcase space she sets aside.

Where I was confused was regarding the Real ID requirements, in addition to the usual things. I brought everything (except my SS card the second time), but then was told I didn't need them when I got there, or didn't need to be there in person

I think I forgot my SS card when I went. I remember freaking out, since this was back when it was hard to get an appointment, but the guy didn't care. I may have had my passport, though (plus 2 bills showing my address). Honestly, I did this twice and am still confused. The first time I'd just moved (within DC) and thought I needed the real ID so I went in person. She didn't look at any of the documents, but my license had a star on it. The second time I got an email telling me I had to go in, and at the end of the appointment he told me I could have done it online.

Seconding this suggestion. I like St Anselm too, but this has the added benefit of not needing to travel far post-dinner.

DC DPR offers free lessons, I think. At least, their website says it's free (when I click on the registration link it says $40-80)

I acknowledge their existence, apologize, and say I don't have cash (which is usually true, I prefer to not carry cash).
