Yes. We love living in this area. The schools are great, everything is nearby, Boston, Providence, Worcester all close, Foxboro and Wrentham for events and shopping. The local arts council kicks ass. It's pretty and has a lot of history going back to pre-colonial times.

Yeah, I've started wearing a mask again. I don't want to be paranoid but numbers are high, half the people I know are sick and I've got other health stuff. Hope everyone takes care!

Reply to Recreational cannabis prices in Mass. plummet as dispensary owners weigh future by bostondotcom
I've noticed lower prices...whatever the reason, I'm happy. I grow a few plants a summer, but like to share so it doesn't last that long. But my local dispensary has generated a ton of revenue for our town and they are excellent corporate citizens. Fair wages, a diverse and well-trained staff, and good community engagement. I don't mind my money going there when it has to!

We are a country that judges success by the bottom line. How much profit we generate. It only helps our numbers to slaughter the poor.
Look at countries that grade themselves on quality of life. We could have that, but most Americans will bitch about taxes before improving the country for anyone but themselves. That's unfettered capitalism and it blows. I believe there is a better way, and I'm not even saying socialism per se, but it won't happen here as long as there are ultra-rich people and poor people who worship them. The system is currently working as intended.
Anyway, sorry this isn't Providence-specific but most states aren't doing any better.

That sounds sensible. Not controversial enough for a headline, I guess.

Hey, since you didn't get an answer, this kind of service varies on a local level. My local police force has social workers on staff. The nearest city to me (Boston) has a mental health crisis hotline (1-877-382-1609). In the U.S., I'd check your state's website for emergency numbers to keep on hand. You could also call the largest hospital in your area; they should be able to get you to mental health services. In a pinch, a lot of churches also have counselors on staff, who know the area and can connect you to resources. You don't have to be a believer to get assistance, a quick call the the church office might get you info.

Reply to Does anyone commute from Providence to Boston each day by train? We are seriously considering purchasing a home but we work at Mass General Hospital. Looking for people with experience to either talk us into it or talk us out of it. by [deleted]
I've done it. It was extremely difficult. You plan to read or get work done on the train but it's not always possible. Sometimes I'd stand most of the way. WiFi doesn't actually work so prepare to rely on your phone. The schedule isn't so hot so try not to miss your train home. All that said, it's doable for a limited time. After two years I really resented all the time I was losing to the commute.
Definitely consider how close the Boston station is to work, too. Commuter rail took about an hour in but getting on the green line from there blew another hour due to incredibly unreliable trains. Same thing in reverse, often missing the commuter train due to trolley issues. Just be prepared to have to kill some time...I did get to read a lot more!

It's fine if you don't mind the burbs. I live just over the MA border and it's a pretty part of the state, easy to get to stuff.
