Parts of that road looked completely terrifying when I was there several years back - like one lane by a cliff face and a road that looks like it'll crumble into the ocean with too much weight (this is the southernmost tip coming from the west). Has it gotten better?

Buncha knob gobblers

I went earlier this year and it was pretty surreal. Late May/early June seemed like a good time with the weather being nice, not too busy, and the mountain pass roads just having opened up. Absolutely incredible place and try to make it out to Lofoten if you can
