mmmmmm I don’t think so. I think this is one of those situations where left-handedness suddenly became a lot more common when kids weren’t getting physically assaulted for it in school.
and like. this is not a personal attack, you’re not a bad person but WOW people are so ready to dehumanize a child of color. if you’ve got a sensitive kid whose feelings are easily hurt, they’re extra vulnerable. you don’t punish them for it, you just gotta be nicer to them. I find it just. absolutely baffling that anyone would look at a hurt child and say “you’re too sensitive.”
if it’s gonna hurt the kid, you protect the kid. even if the kid IS overly sensitive. because at the end of the day, we can and should give up racism. but we don’t want to give up healthy kids.
and i just. really feel the need to stress this. they’re kids, dude. they’re still learning how to be people. they don’t have the cognitive tools to process discrimination without personalizing it and they also haven’t been on the planet long enough to emotionally regulate like an adult would. every child is more sensitive than an adult. and we have a group of children more sensitive to racism specifically. kill the racism, protect the kids. seems pretty simple to me
