The three accidents happened within a few calendar days of each other: Apollo 1 Jan 27, Challenger Jan 28, Columbia Feb 1. So I presume they chose a neutral day just before the first one for a week of remembrance.

The idea of technological progress is fairly recent, 2-3 centuries old. Before then your life was pretty similar to your grandfathers and grandchildrens. Now we are used to seeing new gizmos every year.

There was concept of progress, or degeneration in other spheres. Some believe in spiritual progress as becoming more perfect. Or we have degenerated from Eden and continue downward.

I am in the the "other" category. I have been watching VR short movies at Film Festivals and SIGGRAPH for over a decade. I observed a large jump in quality in 2021. Part of that was improvements in headsets (2K, 90 fps, no cables). And part due to film makers mastering the media. Its not the same a making 3D movies, but some overlap.

(I agree the first VR power uses will be multi-player immersive gaming.)

They delay helps both financial companies and users insure they are marking shared payments as personal, instead of business. The first would not be taxable, while the other is taxable.

For example someone may want to pay the restaurant bill most of time to get extra points on their credit card. They might venmoed more than $600 from dinner companions over the year when sharing the bill.

I had not paid close attention to this recently, so dont know if I had been making a mistake.

Stanford publishes their 2022 faculty average 9-month salaries - $192K, starting at $97K for a lecturer to $268K for full professor. They can add another 30% if they teach in the summer or have research grants for the summer. And they can spend 20% time consulting with no salary limit. Palo Alto is a very high cost of living area.

Note, the threshold for 1099 reporting of internet cash activity was lowered from $20,000 a year to $600 a year, starting for the 2022 tax year. Venmo's FAQ says that is for goods and services. Splitting a restaurant check or a utility payment should be marked personal instead.

Typically one has a 30 day grace period to update insurance to continue coverage in a new location. The premium could change to reflect the new location.

In my location 20% of vehicles are not properly registered because my state charges a huge registration fee of 2.5% percent of vehicle value. These people are in for a surprise if they have an accident. I am covered by uninsured motorist for this reason.
