If more people begin to use rail though, you have to consider projected numbers, not current. Edit: Ya'll can downvote me because you feel strongly opposed to cars but it doesn't change the fact that if you want more people to use rail you are going to have to make that rail accessible to everyone even people who drive cars.

Petco has a weekly clinic. You can make an online appointment easy peasy. Very affordable. Tractor Supply has weekly clinics too. I don't think a vet even bothers to know if your cat is behind on shots. I've never had one look at old records.

I don't know the legality of this practice but it's a common practice in salons too. At least it was way back in the day in another city I lived at the time. I "tried out" at multiple salons that strung me along and never hired me and never paid me. I suspect they do it knowing full well it's free labor without ever intending to hire anyone. It's super shitty and exploitative. I'm sorry for your friend. Maybe look up the state labor board?

I mean OP says they're asking for the same meds they've already been taking for years. What's the issue. If it were any other med without the stigma it would be a non-issue.

Seeing your magnet fishing hauls is always the highlight of my day. Btw seeing you guys do this gave me a little inspiration to buy a couple trash grabbers and walk with my family around the neighborhood to pick up roadside trash. Not as cool as magnet fishing obviously but my kids think it's crazy good fun. Cheers.

I think mostly the commercial area. Personally, I'd live in the residential parts I've been to. But damn it seems like every other week there's some kind of nonsense going down at that Walmart or Trampoline Park, that whole area. Middle river and Essex have our nonsense too. Aero Acres has been having shootings/stabbings. And Hawthorne has violent crime and car jackings. Somehow the carjackers take off deep into Hawthorne like they don't know it's a peninsula. Dummies. Oh yeah also Rosedale has a major stray cart problem lol. I don't understand why folks in Baltimore don't get those granny carts like folks do down in DC. That kabob place in Rosedale is the best restaurant in the whole area though. That's my review of Rosedale ha.

Yeah that's what I said. I can only speak from my own personal experience. Traffic was insane though. I lived on 29th. Cars just gunning it all day and all night. Noisy. This was several years ago. No, I never saw joggers. People walking, I guess. But not seemingly for the sake of a walk. Charles village and hampden, yes absolutely. You say you live adjacent, so I don't know. I lived in Remington. Where I live now is delightfully more walkable and people actually go on walks for walks sake.

Btw I just got around to reading the article you posted and it really helped me, as a transplant, understand the history of Essex better. My neighbors are mostly born and raised here so I've gotten tidbits. I really love the people in this community. I'm a working class Midwestern girl, and I feel right at home here. I see in a lot of these folks what I saw in people back home. People who work hard and care about their neighbors. People who get a lot taken from them and taken out of them but keep on going because they do what they have to do for their families. I moved here for grad school at Johns Hopkins and I have always felt like a misfit there. I'm not an ivory tower kind of girl. So making my home here in Essex gave me that sense of fitting in I needed.
I'm really interested in Cliff O'Donnell from the article, and I wish the article had said more about the volunteer group because I'd like to pitch in. I've been picking up trash while walking with my kids around the neighborhood and maybe I can organize with him something more. I'm going to try to look him up. I'm rambling lol sorry for that. I don't get opportunities to blab about Essex much I guess.

Near the water really? I'd say anything south of Eastern is no go. There might be patches that are nice, I don't know, but Eastern Ave is a dumpster of a street and a lot of crime happens southward.

Yeah I'd say that's it really. The residential seems fine. Plus Rosedale has arguably the best branch of the Baltimore County library system.

The whole city and county are run down. I transplanted here 8 years ago and was taken back by how run down and dirty the city is. There are the wealthy bubbles but I can't afford to live in those lol. I'm guessing you can't either or else you would be looking there. Essex and middle river are working class so you won't find anything ritzy or hip. I used to live in Remington which has become very hip but I sure don't miss the muggings and carjackings there. I agree about the liquor stores but that's seen all over the city and county. Essex and middle river are also big so there's variation within them. I got a lot of bang for my buck out here for my house and property. I love my neighbors. And we have some nice things to do out here too. AMA if you want to know more. Edit: safety, forgot to address that. I feel safer here than I did in Remington. We get petty criminals, car door checkers, lawn mower thieves. But I feel safe walking around the neighborhood, taking my kids for bike rides. We have a lot of joggers and walkers. I never saw that in Remington.

I had really bad anxiety about driving for about 5 years. I finally got it under control and started taking short drives then longer then longer until I got comfortable again. It's really really tough and I totally understand and empathize.
Do you ever use Nextdoor? There's posts on there with lots of people sharing current job opportunities. Someone recently said Chewy is hiring customer service reps who can work from home. There was also a construction company hiring for customer service. People sometimes also post on there that they are looking for work and can do various tasks (housecleaning, dog walking, etc) as a way to make money while they are in a rough patch and lots of people offer to hire them so you might try that too.
There's also frequent posts on Nextdoor about food pantries. One that is very active is Love Thy Neighbor which is privately run so doesn't have any requirements for getting food like some others do. I used to be a writing tutor with some experience helping with resumes so if you would like help with that, pm me any time whether it's today or next week or next month or next year. I mean for free, no charge.
Also the public libraries are a vast and free resource. Not just books! They have workshops to help you with job searches, legal advice, education, all kinds of stuff that you would never even think a library does. And the librarians are super amazing (I go to various locations regularly and love them all).
If you have kids and need help with kid stuff, I have a lot of tips for that as well, just let me know.

Welcome! I transplanted here with my husband 8 years ago! We had a good time going to all the craft brew tap rooms. Union was our favorite, check that out. Now that we have kids our social outings have slowed down so I can recommend a ton of family friendly and kid stuff but if you're child free that won't help lol. But yeah, just going to local breweries and hanging out we met lots of cool people that way. Baltimoreans are a friendly folk for the most part and I think that they are very welcoming of transplants.
I will also suggest enjoying the area's natural beauty. In the city Jones Falls Trail and Ft McHenry are nice and in the county I like Marshy Point and Gunpowder falls (there are several areas, all worth checking out). Also I've had a lot of fun joining local urban foraging groups (again, having kids has slowed me down so I haven't in a couple years) and if you google that stuff should come up. I met lots of great people that way!

Prices are online. I go there a couple times a year. They offer special discounts for Veteran's Day and Birthdays/Anniversaries IIRC so that is when we go. As a parent of young kids, it is one of the few places I feel comfortable taking my kids that is a step above the usual chains that is kid friendly. My kids enjoy dressing up a bit and dining out. It's a special treat for them. Oh and also, kids eat free.
Dinner is pricier than lunch as you might expect. Look at pictures of the kind of food setup they have (Trip Advisor type sites and social media) because if you haven't been before I feel like it can be confusing. There's a buffet style area with lots of salads, soups, veggies, charcuterie, and sides. You can actually do just a lunch on that buffet (without the endless streaming meats) for a very reasonable price.

They were hitting walgreens around my neighborhood for a minute and I kept having to switch where I had to get my kid's medication because of it. Pisses me off. I feel worse for people who don't have the ability to just hop in their car to drive across town like I do.
