Humanity needs rules to regulate AI.
But any country who implements them will be at a competitive disadvantage and will simply get inferior tech to the rest of the world.
I don't know how we resolve this.

Even if unintentional. We need laws on the books that put executives in jail when they create and abandon an ecological disaster like this.
You can bet they'd find the money if they faced actual consequences.

It's not dumb, it's deliberate. Pay your executives crazy salaries and bonuses by raiding the company coffers and driving it into the ground, then let the taxpayer clean up the mess after you've made your money.

For me, my feet are usually the only part of me that feels cold. But I hate having socks on. So it's a pick-your-poison situation.

I understand what you are saying and I agree to a point. But say, for example, the US institutes regulations on AI development, while an adversarial country like China or Russia does not, and their AI develops beyond ours and ends up giving their military a pretty extreme tactical advantage over us. I don't know that I could ethically justify that.
This is a very complicated issue because there's no question that while AI will be a completely transformative and powerful tool for the everyman, there are people in power who will wield it to extremes regardless of regulations.
