I don't understand what's with this endless desire to knock down buildings in a city comprised of like 50% parking lots and vacants.

I am sorry for the huge expense, but not all that sorry to see the city taking illegal parking seriously. People park in places that make it dangerous for you to cross the street, they park in bus stops which fucks up traffic for everyone, and they double park or park in traffic lanes or on the sidewalk or whatever. This city has way too much car bullshit already.

Partly because people do legit 50 miles an hour down it, and it’s disgusting.

Ferry is the one I think that needs at the most. Nobody can move through Ferry Street as it is. Except walking.

Unless a ticket is validated or activated, it’s not valid for the train. It sounds like you don’t understand how it works.

It doesn’t become validated for a couple of minutes after you tell it to validate, so there’s no reason not to do it way upstairs.

Mass transit should be free, but it isn’t, and if you can afford it, quit screwing around or you’re eventually gonna have to pay $75.

Pay the fine, you’ll be fine.
For future reference, you’re supposed to activate them above ground. They don’t start working for a few minutes after activation, for this very reason.

I've lived down here since 2006. It varies. A lot of places yes, and a lot of places with later hours don't keep their hours, but it's definitely worse now than it was.

You can still get them by mail for free whenever you want:
https://learn.vaulthealth.com/nj/
It's about 48 hours to get to you and about 48 hours back to them (you can order a new one as you as you take the previous one on Zoom; it doesn't need to go back first).

Ongoing pandemic has apparently changed that for a lot of places. Fewer people dining out, which means anyone who was dining out late because they couldn't get in at other times now goes earlier, places closing earlier, etc. I know a lot of 24 hour diners all over the place that are still now 9:00 or 10:00 PM. Was surprised. So whatever's happening now isn't necessarily indicative at least.

I'm glad I won't miss it at all (that's presuming I'm flying by 5 years from now, which doesn't seem to be a given with how much we're still in the "fuck around" phase with COVID). Not great for people who want to use Newark Airport from other than Newark, though.

I think someone later brought up better fits for you, but honestly, I never take the train to the airport. It's expensive, and counting the AirTrain, it's slower/more work. Someone either here or on Facebook disagreed with me, and I'm coming from Broad/Raymond and not Penn Station, but given the AirTrain time vs. getting off right at the terminal, plus how often it runs... I think it's a wash. I've only ever hit serious traffic on Saturday afternoon, but obviously one car crash can change that.

No, that's not true. It runs at 1, 2, 3, and 4, as well as 1:30 and 3:30 at least (the schedule is a little weird, as they don't seem to know what to do with a 24/7 schedule, and they typically list after-midnight buses at the end.

I'm pretty sure that's temporary, no? Or is it temporary but not solved until the AirTrain is replaced?

You might wanna try https://transitapp.com. If you're still looking at individual buses or trains or whatever, you're probably trying too hard at this point.

You’re probably better off taking the bus the whole way from downtown. Even cheaper than the $4-5.

I don't actually have any information that I could give you right now without asking someone, I just know people that I could ask. I was more thinking if you were having trouble figuring out where to call or any of that, or had specific questions, I could ask someone for you. Feel free to direct message me if you'd rather not ask here.

They're Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences now (RIP UMDNJ). If you have any trouble, I represent union members that do that kind of work there, u/Beauty8670, if find you need some help knowing what's available/the process there.

I don't think you understood the intent of my comment. I'm not telling you that that's how teaching should be, or that it's OK. I'm just saying what you're saying that is wrong with teaching in Newark sounds like teaching in a widespread way in the US, not just in Newark. I have no doubt that it's even harder in Newark, but I've heard same complaints from people all over the place.

I'm not a teacher, but I'm a member of AFT and have a lot of teacher friends that I talk to about teaching... what you're saying really sounds like just... teaching, at least in the US. I hear it about all sorts of districts (I don't actually even know anyone who teaches here; it's pretty much all suburbs).

My building is exempt from rent control and they tried to raise mine 12%. I ignored them and they later came back with 6%, but Jesus.
I knew there was trouble brewing when that John Oliver piece quoted that POS talking about there being a shortage in housing. "Then there was footage of Bob Nicolls of Monarch Investment and Management Group gushing over the 'unprecedented opportunity' to 'press rents.' 'Where are people gonna go? They can’t go anywhere,' he reasoned."
If I believed in hell, people like that would be going.
