It seems that many can't take congratulations for an answer. They seem to either want more or feel that they have become invincible. This is why a good comeuppance is so satisfying to watch, I guess, but what a waste of straight out good fortune.

We realized that the leaf display further north is better than down around Shenandoah National Park because a lot more maples are thrown into the color palette.

Reply to Scientists have developed a low-cost small device (15x20cm) that can harness energy from wind as gentle as a light breeze and store it as electricity. With wind at 2 m/s the device can produce 3 volts and generate power of up to 290 microwatts (sufficient to power a commercial sensor) by giuliomagnifico
It's really disappointing that climate change had to progress as far as it has before all off these great advancements in renewable energy, harvesting water from ambient humidity, etc have really started to take off. I wonder where we would be now if the urgency had truly been accepted a decade ago.

Reply to [OC] My post PhD job search adventure into biomedical industry. Ended up landing an amazing position in cell therapy (CAR-T) field in a mid-sized company. Was a fun rollercoaster getting there! by theimmortalgene
Congratulations. Having achieved a PhD in what seems a very specialized field, I am disheartened that it took 46 applications to get there, but the result will make that inconvenience just disappear from memory. I hope you get to take part in something ground-breaking at least once in your career, and make things better for everybody.

Our Cuisinart from about 1994 is still the workhorse in our kitchen. Then I found one for $25 of the same model for my daughter, with extra attachments still wrapped and unused. I need more such items.

Reply to It’s really awesome when people realize that you’re dressed up like Daniel Radcliffe. Happy Halloween! by jpotts0
That is a fascinating way of putting it. The movie is supposed to celebrate Weird Al Yankovic, but you point out that because Daniel Radcliffe is playing the part, Weird Al is secondary. A large portion of the audience will associate the songs with Radcliffe, utterly destroying the whole point. Maybe the drive will change to be an attempt to put Radcliffe in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame with no irony whatsoever.
