You can get 'wood filler sticks' online. You get a set of several colors for $10 or so. You can use one, then another and try to blend them. There's a lot of these kinds of products, so someone more expert may have some more specific advise.

Reply to Ideas on how to fix a gate latch by stinkinhardcore
You could make a wood plaque, and screw the latch to that. Hopefully the plaque can get screwed into some studs behind. You could make it somewhat match the gate. Or even a board that extends from the top of the step right up to the top of the gate. Maybe with some accent piece on top (like a post cap).

How about open up and try something completely different? Some people favor rhythm (like me), some lyrics/poetry, some melody. If you like rhythm, check some West African!

So much wildly different music out there!

Really hard to get an idea from just the one photo/angle. Any to get at it from under the floor? If it were me (after solving the ants problem), I might cut a piece of wood to fill the gap, and if not other way to attach, use construction glue to give a flat, solid surface. After that's set, you could cut a small piece of molding and nail it to the floor and filler piece.
It'd be a lot easier to say if several pix from different angles.

Years ago I had ants... Having the exterminator come and do their thing helped for a while, but then they were back. Possibly sugar ants. Then I did their program where they came out every 3 months for a year. Mostly they just sprayed around the perimeter those last 3 times (likely nest near the house outside). Haven't seen them back, and it's been 10 years now.

Over the years, these thing have gotten cheaper and crappier. But that takes the cake! It looks like they're permanently attached (save on threading!) but only a guess.

I just always put my birthday as a few days off. Just because they ask for some info doesn't mean you have to be accurate!
