this happened to me the other day. the worst part, there was some Irish cop funeral happening, and there were a bunch of uniformed cops talking on the sidewalk. so i had to walk through them once, where i could feel them all looking at me, and then i saw by bus zoom past me.
then to add insult to injury i had to angrily walk back through the group of sad Irish cops 🥲

i was wondering that too.
maybe it's because the redline takes an hour to get from alewife to braintree, and it only takes 38 minutes to get from Forest Hills to oak Grove. it's a long ride, so i assume a lot of homeless people especially now in the winter are riding it.
maybe they like the vibe of constant danger of the ancient trains giving out, power going back on and off, and the beautiful sounds. feeling like a 1970s horror movie.

west roxbury is really whacky. i live near the border of it, and even though we have a few buses that run to Forest hills that's kind of the most. trying to catch the 51 to resevoir to connect to the greenline sucks, as it only runs once an hour most of the time, and you have to walk to roslindale.
my main complaint is its really fucking hard to get a CharlieCard in West Rox. i heard that any star market/ 7-11 lets you get and charge a charliecard, so i went to both of those places and they both gave me a "no sorry", and a "...no?". the only place you can get one is the BPL branch and you can't charge it there.
for a town close to Boston it seems like they don't want you to have a charliecard. ive even seen waltham have more stores that offer to sell you one.

maybe 60. they would come in WAVES and then be silent for an hour. i had a ton of candy so i was giving lots and lots in hopes of making kids nights. got yelled at by 2 dads. it was my first time doing this so that kind of sucked.
but the kids were very polite and nice and always lit up when i told them to take as much as they could.

but honestly, looking forward to my MASH/ Andy Griffith/ Green Acres line-up might be the only thing keeping me going.

Reply to is Southbridge as bad as everyone says? by apple-masher
i live/d in southbridge for a while. its not a shit place but it definetly isn't a place id have on a top 100 to be again. it's relatively boring, it's sort of walkable but there aren't many interesting places in town. the neighborhoods aren't so well sidewalk-ed, so that sucks, but the main streets are.
you have to go to sturbridge for most everything. farmers market, Walmart, stop and shop, etc. i love the big Y but that SMELL is absolutely HORRIBLE! what the hell is with that? in southbridge, the cast of characters aren't so nice. i remember walking from my neighborhood to the big bunny and it was extremely unsettling with the mix of undeveloped roads and people who hang on street corners, just staring and glaring at you in broad daylight. the big bunny itself has a lot of weird people.
but as everyone has said, the schools are 100% a no go. ive heard from multiple people, completely unrelated from each other, that it's a horrible school. my landlord told me that his friend used to work there, and he was told if you work at that school, you could probably get hired at any school in the future, because if you survived that school you could survive anything.
it's not horrible but it doesn't have a lot of redeeming qualities. it's boring as shit, basically. there's no community, there's not many events. atleast the library is nice? but really, i never worry about my safety there but its not a place to thrive.
