At universities, 75% or more of the work in the libraries is performed by people w/o MLS degrees for peanut wages. They only hire MLS holders for a handful of high level positions. Those people are considered faculty.

Greenfield is a great area, and safe. It skews a lot older, so it depends on if you want peace and quiet, or access to nightlife.

Greenfield is also pretty big, but depending on where you are, it's easy to walk from there to Oakland or Squirrel Hill. Also handy access to the Waterfront for big box stores.

I lived there for seven years, so let me know if you want more details.

This sounds so amazing and might be the one combination of interests that would tempt me out of my house! A little late for my old ass, though. I hope sometime you can organize a 6-8pm or a Sunday afternoon time slot.

Hope it goes well and the kittehs don't make off with all the dice.

Pros: Wonderful parks. Walkable neighborhoods. Good restaurant options. Some nice old homes with character.
Cons: Air pollution. Travel between neighborhoods can be a PITA. Crap public transit. Pathological sports mania. Horrible humid summers. Mud-soaked winters when everything is gray and brown and looks like a World War I battlefield. Many ugly, run down neighborhoods covered in litter. Provincialism. Scary infrastructure.
