I'm pretty hypocritical in that I never used care about racists and homophobes getting arrested for being aresholes, it wasn't something I could get worked up enough to defend.

When I saw people being threatened with arrest for holding up blank pieces of paper to protest the monarchy, during the Queen's funeral, I changed my mind on the subject.

Exactly how it should be.

I find it's mainly people who had a similar education to yourself, that are the hardest to reason with when it comes to British history.

Acknowledging atrocities were carried out by the Empire doesn't mean you can't be proud of positive contributions at the same time.

We should be proud of doing good in the world and learning about the not so good, means we can learn from it and not repeat it.

To be clear I'm having a go at the likes of Boris Johnson and Nigel Farage here, not the British public in general.

The NI protocol deal goes some way to improving relations with the EU and is a positive step forward. It's a minority of even Brexit supporters that will disagree with the deal.

Where did you learn your history? I must be one of a very few people who was taught a well rounded view of history, going by some of these comments.

Also people don't think we are polite and cultured, any post on here about the UK is full of people shitting on the British.

When did you go to school? Because that's not how I was taught. Of course there was focus on victories and proud moments but the negative effects of the empire definitely were not glossed over.

I know, it's the die hard Brexit supporters who are getting annoyed that the two are meeting, because they don't want to sign the new deal on the NI protocol.

They're accusing the PM of involving the head of state in politics but the deal has been all but agreed anyway and Charles would have zero influence, as the EU already want to strike a deal.

It's the same people who would claim to be incensed if Von Der Leyen didn't meet Charles under different circumstances.

They're a bunch of disingenuous dicks.

It used to work in England too, kids who's parents are on social benefits still get free school meals. Many more people, who aren't on social benefits, are struggling these days so free school meals for all would be the best solution.

Sadiq Kahn is the Labour Mayor of London and has a much more socialist outlook than the sitting Tory government, who decides for most of the rest of the country.
