Many years (decades) ago I had gone to see Armin Van Buuren at Fur and showed up there at 430am trying to get some food before heading home. Security refused to let us inside. Not sure what they were trying to stop, as the inside already looked like an absolute zoo. People dancing, others fighting, everyone smoking.

I think this paragraph gives a little context to the rise and hopefully stops any "is it or isn't it getting worse" commentary:

"Authorities said 203 people were killed in D.C. last year, 10 percent fewer than in 2021. But it was the second consecutive year the city breached the 200-mark for homicides. Before 2021, the District last saw 200 or more killings in 2003."

If you don't have a budget, just get a van from the Uhaul on K St. You don't want the cheapest movers that are uninsured moving all your stuff. Otherwise, go with Bookstore movers. We used them to move house about a mile from one end of Capitol Hill to the other. They were great, but a bit more expensive.

I have several friends with running coaches that focus on racing and competition, but sounds like you need a coach that can focus on more basic stuff. I'd suggest going to Pacer's or Georgetown Running. They can critique your running style and suggest shoes, insoles, or other things to help. If you're looking for a next step, I've gotten good form help from my sports doctor and PT. They've helped me sort out my cycling issues, specifically, to keep me from injuring myself.

I live at 9th and K and I actively avoid walking or cycling down K. Between the moron drivers, bombed out tarmac, and disappearing bike lane, it’s an absolute shitshow. I go to I St, cycle all the way down to 2nd, then cut back to K at the underpass if I head downtown. Even as a very experienced cyclist, I do not trust riding a bike on this section of K.

I've lived in both NYC and London and both systems make more sense to me than DC's system. The zone system isn't that confusing - it makes a lot of conceptual sense and it's easy to show on a map. This is the system London uses and it was a snap to learn to use (absolutely not as hard as the dreaded taxi zone system.)
