Reply to TIL that one of the few positive health effects of smoking is a drastic reduction of a person's risk of thyroid cancer. According to a Korean study of the health records of over 10M people, smokers have a 36% lower risk of thyroid cancer. Smoking and heavy drinking reduces one's risk even more. by EncyclopediaJake
Good to know. I often tell the people at work that I smoke for their health. Stand between me and my nicotine and I'll rip your throat out.

Reply to TIL Apollo 15 astronauts Scott, Worden and Irwin secretly carried 400 unauthorized postal covers in one of Scott’s spacesuit pockets to the Moon aboard the Falcon. They took payments for carrying the covers; were reprimanded by NASA and never flew in space again. by thenerdknuckle
That is a direct rip from "The Man Who Sold The Moon". Heinlein had his character sell "stamped on moon" postage as part of his grift.
DD Harriman is my hero.

Reply to TIL Frankenstein did not have a hunchback assistant called Igor in either Mary Shelley's novel or the original Universal and Hammer films. The character is a pastiche of multiple characters across several movies. by BringsHomeBones
