Reply to comment by ZachVorhies in [D] Is 16gb ram for macbook pro enough for ML?? by peno8
I regularly do ML professionally and as a hobby on a 2015 MacBook Pro, where I can do computer vision with DL in inference on a CPU. It’s plenty fast enough for PGMs, SVMs, decision trees, etc. Not every problem requires a GPU, but if I’m doing anything at scale or that requires power and speed then I’ll just setup a cloud instance.
I also have a M1 Mac mini that sits on my desk that I remote login to that I have used for GPU-based DL training and inference. It’s great for small experiments and writing the code, but cloud instances are the way to go until the US silicon fabs start opening and prices drop.

Reply to comment by breckenridgeback in ELI5: How is that Pantone colors don't have direct RGB counterparts? by ExternalUserError
The ability of different monitors to display the same thing in RGB as might be printed in CMYK is down to the ICC profile, not Pantone. PMS just provides the color references, it is the job of the printer company, display manufacturer, etc, to ensure appropriate mapping of the gamuts.

Reply to comment by ShannonsParade in $44,999 50 year Balvenie Scotch whisky by Android9765
I brought my cousin (who’s a C-list actor) a 15yr glenfiddich for New Years, several years ago. It was promptly placed to the side as a his close friend (another C-list actor) brought in a $10k+ bottle of scotch for them to share that he’d “picked up on the way”.
For special occasions I could absolutely see a more wealthy pair share a $50k+ bottle, and there are plenty of A-list celebrities with money and no financial sense who go to everyday shops like the rest of us.
As for me, that glenfiddich is probably the most expensive bottle of alcohol I’ll ever buy.

You mean maintaining a constant approximate-second count and doing a stopping distance-to-second conversion in your head isn’t good enough for you lot?
