Best way to find a stud or joint behind lathe is a strong neodymium magnet. One scavenged from an old hard drive works well as they have a strong pull at the edge, allowing you to be more precise in locating the nails

Make a pencil mark where ever it sticks in the area you want to mount something, and the stud/joist will be indicated by a straight row of marks while any painted over or broken off nail in the gaps will be an outlier.

Nope.

If my dentist says some ignorant, hateful, transphobic shit I can tell him to fuck himself and go to a different dentist.

If a plumber says ignorant, hateful, transphobic shit I can throw him off my job and have a different plumber finish the work.

If the chief of police says something ignorant, hateful, and transphobic, welp we're stuck with his dumb ass until at least the next election, potentially get harrassment from him and the rest of his armed and unaccountable law enforcement buddies, and worst case he kneels on the back of my neck until I asphixiate.

Public servants must be held to a higher standard, and if they don't like it, they shouldn't be public servants.

Champlain is almost 200ft deep where the current ferry crosses to Grand Isle. Apparently the Army Corp of Engineers considered the idea of a suspended tunnel back in the early 80's, but dismissed it due to the lake bottom being too soft and high winds being a concern. It seems like many suspended floating tunnels have been proposed across the world, but none built yet, though China and Norway are actively pursuing the tech. Would be interesting to see VT/NY be the first to use such a tunnel, but I don't see it happening.

I do think a suspension or cable-stay bridge could be designed to cross the channel between NY and VT and be aesthetically beautiful
