Those are not ideal if he plans on running with them as he will hear every thump of his feet. I recommend ear hook style earbuds like the powerbeat pros as they rest on the ear but still provide decent enough isolation.

You want :
- The cheapest Apple Watch you can buy with your songs downloaded to the watch/ a data plan on the watch with Spotify.
- Power beats pro or any earbud equivalent with hooks on them so the don’t fall out during work outs.
I use this setup for 2 mile runs and gym workouts and they have never failed me yet.

I’ve always heard to avoid socket savers is this true? I really want to try them as my Mjolnir 2 due to the recessed tubes.

Honestly I would save the 100 bucks and buy a M3x if you are interested in this.

No because that was an example. You want the watch to be the source for the music only. You can wear it anywhere without worrying about a phone.
When I was in the US I had a data plan with my watch so I could stream music without a phone with the watch only.
Looking more into it you can use a Fitbit 5 add music to it and sync the Fitbit to your wireless earbud of choice.
