We used 6" thick with the proper amount of rebar. This was 30 years ago and only have a few hairline cracks. This was for a parking pad.

I had a situation where the main shut off would not shut off. I called the city and they came out and shut off the water supply to the house. The main shut off used a rubber washer that had broken up. The guy who came out told me to go and get a gate valve of the same size as the original. He came back and installed it for me. Days later I noticed that the water meter was not turning. Called the city again and they came out and replaced the meter. Turns out the broken washer in the old shut off was caught up in the old meter.

Reply to Tapping sound behind walls when sink/toilet running - could this be something aside from a leak? by Widespread_Looting
I have that when I run the sink taps in the 2 piece bathroom off the master bedroom. It is the pipes contracting and rubbing on a 2x4 in the wall. When I push on the wall it stops for a short time and starts up again until the pipe warms up.

Whatever solution you use, don't over tighten the screw. As an ex service tech, I see that people tend to over tighten and strip screws.

Reply to How do I prevent condensation on the windows from causing water to accumulate on the windowsill? by teddythepooh99
I had this problem with our first house. I bought plastic film window kits. It uses double faced tape that you stick on the window frame and then stick the plastic film to. Not only did it keep the condensation at bay, it blocked out drafts.

Reply to TIFU by accidentally walking out of work by iamrayuu
Years ago when I was working for the province, I went out to get some parts for my car. I thought it was 12 noon. When I got back I saw that it was close to 12 noon. No one noticed I had left before lunch hour.

Reply to Replacing tub with one 2in longer? by brandolinium
Please be careful when moving the new tub. When I replaced our tub and was moving the old tub outside, I made one end flex and was struck in the face with shards of porcelain with sharp ends. Could have lost an eye.

Good luck with that. A strange problem to be sure.

Are all of the rim jets working? We had some of ours partially plugged with calcium build up and would drip after the toilet was filled.

I used Elmer's wood glue on arborite for a desk I built 25 years ago. The guy at the lumber yard said that all the arborite on their sales desk is held in place by Elmer's. The arborite was worn down but there were no lifting corners.

Reply to Patching drywall above shower by 98_Camaro
When I replaced our bathtub and removed tile around the tub, I replaced the drywall with the water safe dry wall. I think it was blue. I should have used the cement board. The one piece arborite tub surround we had installed, only has one calked seam where it meets the tub. No problems yet. This was 20+ years ago

The contractor who did the job was a neighbour. He built my double garage 2 or 3 years before and wanted to bring the pad up to the same level as the garage floor. He said that it would stand up better to frost. Canadian prairie winters. The important part was the rebar. He laid the proper amount of rebar and I got the job of tying them together with the wire twisty things with the hooked tool. He was one hell of a contractor.
