Hiya,

I'm looking to buy a pair of Danner Tachyons in a UK size 10/US 10.5 that I saw online and I'm wondering if they'd fit me well. For reference, a few months ago I bought a pair of Vivobarefoot Primus Lite III size 43 EU and those are my best fitting/most comfortable shoes I have. My feet are snug in them without causing any discomfort and the wider toe box on those is making it way harder to go back to traditionally narrow/heavy boots.

I've been looking for urban boots that are light, zero drop (or close), and have a wide toe box without going overboard with the military boot look and the Danner Tachyons seem like the best go. Any thoughts on the sizing compatibility for these based on my Vivobarefoot purchase or anyone's experience with either shoe? I'm also open to other suggestions for shoes that tick the boxes I mentioned for a similar/cheaper price since Danners have significant import fees from the US to Australia.

Thanks :)

I have two pairs of tachyons on in black and one in sage green some of the best boots I’ve owned and by far the lightest. I personally prefer lowas zephyrs but they have the military look

The zephyrs look nice :) I wouldn’t mind a more military profile if they were for outdoor work/hiking. I’m looking to use mine for more every day use like commute. What size shoes do you normally wear and is that what you chose for the Danners? How quickly did they start to wear down?

Ima 10.5 US and I got 10.5 in tachyons and for hard use mine word down in about 18 months. I would say the lowas are more buy it for life mine went through a deployment and hundred of hours of training and still feel brand new

Yeah the Iowas definitely seem more suited for hard use. I’ll keep an eye on them :)

I wear them five days a week as a military member and have since 2015. They run true to size/slightly larger. E.g. I wear a 12. I typically wear a 12 in every other shoe but sometimes wear a 12.5.

But, I wouldn't call them BIFL. The soles won't hold up as long as heavier duty boots. The soles are what make them so comfortable and light but it comes at the cost of longevity. Im on my second pair now but I do love them and especially for the price.

I feel like BIFL could definitely translate as “I love these so much” that you’d be happy to buy another pair once they’ve been worn out. I didn’t know what other sub to post this to so I can get 5+ years from them, I’d be satisfied. But yeah, I’m not going to be doing anything heavy duty in them and they’ll be in my rotation of other footwear if I buy them.

I dont have any issue with you putting it in this forum. I was more just letting you know that you wont really be buying them for life. But many people dont wear boots 200+ days a year so if you don't then you'll obviously get more life out of them.

That said, I still use my first pair for yard work around the house so technically I still have them. When my current pair wears out, Ill likely buy another.

Totally understandable :) Committing to a third pair down the line is also a pretty solid vouch for comfy shoes haha

I have a pair of these, I have a size 10 which I normally wear, they are slightly on the snug side in both length and width.

I really like them so far, took a bit to break in but they are very comfortable.

Did you buy the GTX model or the regular ones? I’ve also read elsewhere that they can take a little time to break in.

I just have the regular Coyote colour ones.

There was a part rubbing against the knobby part of my ankle that bothered me but it was fine after a couple weeks.

Interesting. I’ve heard thinner sock can help with some of the snugness. What sort of activities do you wear yours for? Do you feel like they do the job well for what you need?

I wouldn't say I really use them for any activity minus some light hiking. They have been my daily driver boots during fall and winter since I bought them this September. I probably wear them 5/7 days a week. I've owned a pair of SFBs and a pair of Paladium jungle boots, I feel these perform similarly to the SFBs.

I looked at the SFB’s as well but the rounder toe box won me over. I dig the SFB’s overall profile though and a lot of people seem to love that shoe :)

Danner boots have become random number generators in terms of sizing.

I am wearing US 11 Danner Quarry soft toe right now that is a touch small but usable.

I have an older pair of US 11 Danner Quarry hard toe that are a touch large on me, but fine.

I recently bought US 11 Danner Rain Forest that are just too small for me. I am not sure whether to sell them or wait for my offspring to grow into them.

This is the first I’ve heard of this issue and I’m slightly discouraged hearing that. Any chance the different models could have a factor in the sizing? As for the two Quarries, they definitely have the same manufacturer? How far apart were the purchases?

The two Quarries were certainly both Danner. One black steel toe, one brown soft toe. Bought maybe 2 years apart.

It may be the case they are all made in different factories, that would be an explanation without being an excuse.

If I wanted buying clothes to be a sizing crapshoot I would buy womens clothes.

Hmm, fair enough. Sorry to hear you had that experience. I’d be disappointed as well if it was that inconsistent. I think I have the benefit of the seller I’m eyeing offering a 30 day refund.
