I'm looking for something like the attached fan except not a steaming pile of crap. I probably ran this one for 20 hours total before it blew a thermal overload. And before that it started squealing and I had to grease the motor bearings in it.

I don't want anything giant, nothing that I have to push on wheels. I will use it for cooling off in my shop, drying basements, airing out outbuildings, etc.

Either Lasko (and by extension AirKing) or Vornado (specifically their made in USA fans) although I have heard concerning things about Vornado quality slipping.

I should have thought of Lasko. I had one of their cheapie walmart box fans blowing on me as I slept for like 10 years

I've heard the same, but my 2021-built fans have been exceptional so far. Running for over a year straight now.

Lasko’s high velocity 20” is what your looking for. I bought one to use at work and my employees would always forget to turn it off. It would stay on practically 24 hours a day for 5 days a week and it’s still chugging along with no issues. I’ve only had it for about 5 years but I don’t doubt it’s longevity one bit.

You want a TPI or ILIVING. You won't find any motor made today that doesn't need to be regularly oiled, but at least those two have oil ports which will make it much easier. Air King which is owned by Lasko also makes a pretty good HV fan that uses ball bearings instead of sleeve bearings, which don't need oiling as often, but most of them ship with unbalanced blades so pick your poison.

Really? Not to be argumentative but I have run box fans and ceiling fans literally continuously for years without oiling anything. This thing was running slow and screeching in less than 10 hours. If you have to take the back of the motor off to oil it it's not meant to be oiled. I would like one with an oil port though.

Oh I meant portable fans, and by regularly I mean every 1-2 years or so. Compared to vintage fans that have run 50+ years with no maintenance, that's pretty regularly lol. Even motors made last decade were better than the ones today, a lot of new ones don't even have oil added at the factory anymore (Comfort Zone is notorious for this). Lasko tends to be better but the quality control is still pretty inconsistent.

Air King has done me right. I’ve beat the thing up pretty good. I went through a few other brands including the standard store brand Home Depot ones and finally opted for an Air King and it’s been solid. However their design and look is more industrial.
