Expensive for nail clippers but I’ve literally haven’t had to buy another one.

The main issue seems to be the pin malfunctioning after a few years, but Klhip has always stood by their product guarantee and repaired it when mailed in.

Wooo... $80. Just curious, is there anything special that can justify the price? I mean, a $10 pair should atleast last 10 years.

Seems like it’s not well made if a pin keeps breaking. That’s one of the features of BIFL products.

I’ve been rocking the same pair (not the same pair as OP) for 15 years. Pretty sure I got them at Walmart for $5.99.

Haven’t needed to be repaired yet.

This is an odd one to me. I have a pair from Walgreens that has lasted 10+ years. What’s the benefit of one with a “pin”?

Honestly the only thing keeping the cheepo ones from being BIFL for me are hotels and airline baggage handlers

Even if they crap out now, you'd spend $27 to last 80 years. Versus $80 for one pair to hopefully last 80 years.

You can buy $5 nail clippers, no one is stopping you. These have stayed sharp for me, are ergonomically designed and have eliminated hangnail issues that I got from cheaper nail clippers that would invariably lose their sharpness over time.

Darn tough socks also get holes after lots of use, but they are another brand that stay by their guarantee to fix or replace.

This is kinda like having the same hair brush for life. Like, we get it and props for trying to cut down on trash but hygiene stuff I’m alright with tossing out eventually.

Prior to getting these I was having to change my clippers every two years or so - they got dull easily and hangnail was an issue after a while, since I keep my nails as short as possible due to longer nail beds.

Whether the price is justified or not is really up to the individual that purchases it. For me I like things that are beautiful and functional, and I feel that this is BIFL since I’ve had it a decade and was very surprised that they honoured their warranty.

I’ve had a dyson vacuum that was less than a year old with the felt coming loose under the roller head - not covered under their warranty.

I think it’s quite remarkable when companies stand by their products, which is why I made a post.

I didn’t claim it was cheap. I’m just saying after owning maybe 15 pairs of nail clippers over my life I’ve never had to buy another one.

Fwiw, I think they also had a price increase. When I purchased it, it cost around $50 iirc.

I have to say I did balk at the price initially too, but then I started using it and I would absolutely repurchase it if I lost it. I keep my nails very short so it’s really quite nice not having to file nails or getting hangnail with the Klhip.

As always ymmv but I love mine.

Funny you mentioned it, I actually do have a Mason Pearson brush but if I lost it wouldn’t bother to replace it.

Really? Because I've heard that they sharpen your tools for free forever and if they can't sharpen them, they send you a coupon to buy a new one

I haven’t sent them back for sharpening - they do tend to lose their sharpness after a while. The Klhip stays sharp always. Again, the pin is the issue but mine is first generation - I am not sure how the newer models perform or if they have the same issue.

in this thread alone you have mentioned your expensive af nail clippers, your expensive af vacuum, and your expensive af hairbrush (??). this sub isnt a validation for your spending habits. expensive does not always equal better.

I have standard cvs 3-5 dollar nail clippers that are 10 years old with no deterioration on them. I would never spend this kind of money on a nail clipper because I like to have several.

I carry one in my standard roll on-suitcase, one in my car, one in my plane, and one in my bathroom drawer.

Their "Klhip Classic Clipper Set" is good, I know because it's actually KAI clippers which I have. Like most KAI things, basic and great. Though KAI charges a few dollars each...

For me, items like this get priced against what they are replacing. I'm not saying this is 100% accurate, but if a $80 set of clippers eliminates a lifetime of $20 manicures or pedicures then it's a great deal. Or maybe it doubles the time between those visits.

If hangnails etc were a big problem for you, and they aren't anymore, then I don't get why people are all weird about you getting a nice set of clippers.

When I was in college, I had really cheap ones. They started to show rust spots after a couple years. Stainless solved that problem, and cost no more than $10. Still using those second-round purchases many years later.

I'm willing to spring for a really solid product that outcompetes the rest, but $80 for clippers? Nah.

I’m really not sure, it has a front lever instead of back like the usual. When I had problems it was with the lever no longer having resistance. Nothing actually broke, no pieces came loose, so I’m guessing it might be a pin somewhere.

I bought this because of the design... broke on me in less than a year. Now I've used a Green Bell for at least 7 years. Stainless Steel, Japan. Much better feeling. No repairs so far.

Industrial design, art. Probably not practical at all.
