I use 1 backpack for EVERYTHING

Hiking, traveling, beach, etc!!

-----

2015

I bought herschel heritage backpack, waterproof.

2019

The zippers broke

Applied for Herschel lifetime guarantee and they gave me a store coupon at the same 100% cost price!

So in 2019 I bought a Classic Backpack XL Studio Waterproof

https://preview.redd.it/satdvci4noia1.png?width=2000&format=png&auto=webp&v=enabled&s=35e2c1fd3f03e31a6bd8f8b9a396463b27f8bcf2

2023

The backpack got a few tears.

https://preview.redd.it/d02xp1xtnoia1.png?width=1400&format=png&auto=webp&v=enabled&s=6a92e91d57ed773340e24ab77772797fab2f0813

Reached out to Herschel again and they were AMAZING! They will be direct depositing a 100% refund!

Soo good!

What I am looking for:

  1. Super easy and amazing lifetime warranty (similar to Herschel)
  2. Doesn't look too chucky, hungs the back very BUT would be able to fit camera, water bottle, drone, towel (slightly bigger than last 2 backpacks I've gotten
  3. Slightly waterproof
  4. Versatile enough for mountain hike, but works for when I am going into the city.

Extra Question:

  1. Does lifetime warranty work for item that I buy 2nd hand off ebay, facebook marketplace, gumtree, etc
  2. Might want to buy a used patagonia or northface or YETI backpack.
  3. If I use these products for an extra 3-5 years (and it is 2-3yrs old already). And it gets damaged. Could I apply for lifetime warranty? Do the companies ask for the receipt? what is the product is 5-10 old and you lost the receipt?

Some designs that caught my eye:

Maybe I could get some advice on how seamless their warranty is for wear and tear.

Would LOVE to get some recommendations (with images if possible)

There's a huge difference. Wear and tear are not usually covered in warranties. You got lucky.

I think you maybe confusing the definition of the warranty. May want to check each of it's terms and conditions. I feel you got lucky with herschel. You got two backpacks for free.

Hmm what about those stories of people getting a refund or replacement for 5-10yr old Patagonia or arcteryx jackets. Damaged due to wear and tear.

The thing about it is that if you present your claim in a fashion that is in line with their terms, they can't say no. know what i mean? It depends on your ethics and morals and how you want to live your life...youre soul will age differently than your actions, and it catches up to you. That's all i have to say.

Pelican MPB35 might be a contender. But you'll probably have better success finding a solution at r/backpacks since the people there have more experience.

If you want to go with an Aussie company, I've loved my Crumpler. Held up for 15 years of daily use. They're hard to get here in Europe, but should be super easy for you!

Any experience with their customer service!?

Just remember, most “lifetime warranties” are not your lifetime. It’s the expected lifetime of the product.

With that said, can you get Duluth Pack down under?

WOW such a nice brand! Thanks for the recommendation!!!

I’ve got a Deuter Futura 22L that I daily drove for YEARS in the city, backcountry, road trips, you name it. It’s dirty, sure, but structurally it’s the same as the day I got it. I broke a couple of the buckles and Deuter sent replacements without batting an eye. I think my favourite part is that the fabric can withstand a light rain without the contents getting wet, but then for a downpour it has a built in rain cover that folds out of a flap on the bottom. The only reason it’s not my daily anymore is that I just felt like switching to a less rugged bag to save some weight on my bus commute - if I was still walking every day I would still be using the Deuter for the spinal support.

If you need something bigger, I can also recommend Osprey. I’ve had one of their 60+12 (the 12 is a detachable daypack) mountaineering packs for international backpacking since 2017 and it’s held up great. And I was a migrant fruit picker back then, and NOT gentle on my gear at all. I haven’t had to test the warranty yet, but Osprey are legit and you’ll see them mentioned in this sub often.

A true buy it for life that I would be surprised to ever see break is the Finnish company Savotta

So, you don’t need backpacking capabilities, just EDC/travel, correct?

What size works best?

What’s available locally? Will/can their warranty be handled through a shop?

SimplestGamer OP t1_j90sxk7 wrote

>Savotta

EDC/Travel yes!

20L+
I am not to sure of all the brands available in AU

Warranty can be through shop or shipping!

Osprey has a terrific lifetime warranty that covers normal wear and tear but their packs aren’t very fashionable. They make awesome travel and hiking backpacks, though.

yes you are right, super not fashionable :(

Go to REI. I picked up an osprey. It's the best backpack I've ever owned.

"Buy it for 4 years"

I don't mind a good warranty, but I primarily just prefer products that last long in the first place.
