Guest Parking for More Than 3 Days?

I have a friend who's flying out of Logan for her honeymoon and plans to stay with us before she goes and leave her car for 2 weeks. We have a guest pass for her but I'm reading on the back that cars can't stay in the same zone for >3 days. Is this heavily enforced? I can move the car around a few times but there will be a 7 day period around xmas that I can't move it.

Alewife garage is pretty reasonably priced at $9/day on weekdays and $3/day on weekends. $57 for 2 weeks which isn't much compared to the cost of the honeymoon.

Alewife used to charge $15 overnight, but now the website only mentions the $9/$3 daily fee. Did they get rid of the overnight upcharge at some point, or is the website incorrect?

You can apply for an extended visitor's parking permit in person at 344 Broadway, You'll need a copy of your visitor's registration and to have a regular visitor's pass. The clerk might be confused at request but it is on the cambridge parking website under 'unique circumstances'.

Ive never known it to be enforced in mid-Cambridge, ive had guests for a little over a week with no issues

Definitely area dependent. On a side street back in a residential neighborhood it's probably ok. Down in Kendall they will get ya.

I suspect it depends on the area. I've seen people near me use guest passes for months at a time without issue.

I may or may not have used one for months straight on the same street when I first moved to Cambridge. I had a whole domino chain of licenses and registration to work through. And uh, I was lazy.

Randomly enforced on side streets. Can be fine for months and then one day they get you. And then they'll get you again the next day...

I kid you not my neighbor has been using a visitors pass for his work truck for at least 4 years. I've only ever seen him get a ticket once.

If you are near a shopping or holiday activity hub they are more likely to get tickets than in the middle of a residential neighborhood.

How often do you see tickets on your street? I have lived in the same apartment for almost 20 years and i have so rarely seen them patrol the residential parking here that I would just risk it and offer to pay if my guests got a ticket. Move the car every day, and if they get a ticket then find an alternative for the rest of the visit.

Edit: if you can't find anyone to move it for those 7 days you should park in a garage. Construction is unlikely as are moving vans this time of year, but a snow emergency isn't out of the question. You can't leave a car unattended for 7 days, permit or not.

Never used to be enforced at all unless someone complained. However, they have stepped up all parking enforcement (Mid Cambridge and Riverside) with the reduction in parking capacity due to bike lanes, etc. You should be OK if you move it, but may well be ticketed if not.

Write to the city parking office and they’ll usually allow you to use it for longer if you notify them and it is a one-time visit sort of thing. Also move it every few day and don’t park on busy streets or near landmarks (colleges). The sides streets are less busy and patrolled. Also don’t park on the end of the street, park in the middle so they won’t see and out of state license plate and investigate.

I’d park in lower Allston. They do not enforce parking at all
