Hello All,

First spring in CT and was wondering what med regiment do you have your dogs on?

Currently my dogs have nexgard and heartgard but I might need to change due to heartgard pill is huge and they are 15 year old chihuahuas with dental issues rising.

Frontline wasn’t cutting it for us in CA but might work here.

Any suggestions would be great thank you. Located in Bethany so dense woods but lawn is treated and cut regularly due to children.

We use Simparica trio, it covers flea, tick & heartworm in one chewable.

We use Simparica Trio for both of ours, too. When tick season is especially bad, like when the tiny nymphs are out, we also add on a soresto collar to repel ticks. We spend a lot of time in the woods, so it is needed.

What is this collar? My dog is on Simparica as well but he’s a golden doodle and when he comes into the house he’s got half a dozen riders on him. Need another solution…

It is a flea and tick collar that is good for 6-8 months. You can find it with a Google search. It repels ticks on top of killing them. Vet said it is safe to use in combination with most oral and topical flea and tick meds as long as your dog hasn’t exhibited adverse reactions to most other preventatives. We’ve been really impressed with how well it works keeping ticks off the dogs. It isn’t 100%, but it is far better than when we used Simparica alone.

Careful, Soresto collars are tied to a lot of dog deaths. Just google it

Frontline won't work and you need both medicine all year, we have winter ticks

We use Heartguard and Nexguard and have to do so year round. Talk to your vet about alternatives for your dogs.

Once I see a tick on my dog, I put on a dose of Frontline and mow my lawn.

We do heartgard and nexgard. Tried simparico trio but gave one dog very bad diarrhea, so stopped even though it was the most convenient. Also tried bravecto but since it’s every 3 months it was hard for us to remember to give/reorder. If teeth are the issue, maybe try smashing the heartgard up in a little unsalted peanut butter/wet food. We do that because one dog won’t eat it otherwise.
