I didn't know Range Rovers could go that fast. Surely not a great idea in any car but especially in an SUV.

So unlike in GTA, when you get a 5 star rating you cannot just duck into a garage and evade the police.

Sucks. I too have a need for speed.

Lol, 25k bond for speeding, but a drunk driver who killed someone in Fairfield was released on a 5k bond. SMFH

If he just pulled over and didn't evade he wouldn't even be in jail

I'm not sure about that. Going that fast gets you a reckless driving charge. Not sure if they'll arrest you, but you've graduated from a ticket to a misdemeanor.

If his insurance and driving license were all up to date, and no outstanding warrants, probation and all that then it is likely he would be let go or at the very least the car would be towed/impounded and released.

I believe this can sometimes happen based on my experience as a college kid when my father was pulled over for really excessive speed in his Acura on 84 in Manchester in the HOV lane, well in excess of a misdemeanor level @ 120mph or so. It was fun as hell trip home from college until we got pulled over. As soon as Dad saw the cop he slowed down and pulled over. The cop was spitting mad but let us go on a promise to appear in court. Eventually in court with a traffic lawyer it got brought down to a points level speeding ticket w/o reckless driving or any other charges. Of course we weren't DWB, so things may differ based on your skin color.

PTA is technically an arrest without bail I think? Not sure, law isn't my specialty but I have been arrested for traffic related shenanigans. Without going into too much detail reckless driving was ONE of the charges, but also a couple of other fun ones, none of which were intoxication, so I'm not entirely sure which one got me collared.

But you know, speeding could have killed someone, so the bond needs to be high.

What a noob. Next time he should have a few beers first to cover his ass.

Beer. The cheap insurance policy for dumb decisions.

Cops are stopping people for speeding? Must be only if you're going over 130 mph.

Sad thing is, I got pulled over Saturday night for going 80.. On Rte 2 of all places.

If he had done it and not been clocked we'd have never known about it. So speeding in general is seen as a victimless crime until it isn't... which is either when an idiot like this plows into someone or the police/fire department have to scrape him off the pavement or pull him out of some trees in a bloody pulp. Either way folks have to deal with the horrible results that physics imparts the faster you go.

I think most of us in this sub speed on our roadways. Maybe not to this level but certainly quite a few of us could be considered dangerous even just on going 75mph on 84 or the Merritt regularly. So I don't drive like this but myself in this glass house isn't going to throw rocks that will eventually result in more traffic enforcement or going back to the old way where CT had a ban on radar detectors and the cops were the hugest dicks about even minor speeding, they were fucking everywhere. I've been driving in this state since 1984 and the old ways were not at all better. I like the current traffic flow much better.

This goes right back to the thread I made a couple weeks ago about people commonly going 100+ on the highways. It's terrifying!

He should have gone down route 11. Much straighter road. He probably could have gone faster.

  • you: sounds like the cops also killed someone then

This is why we need speed governors. They don't really do shit to stop people going 50 in a 20, but at least we know there's nowhere to legally go over 80, and 65 in most non-rural highways.

Cars now have cameras that can read speed limit signs. It won't be long before regulation exists forcing cars to limit themselves based on the signs they see.

PBall95 t1_iyallgf wrote

A multitude of reasons as to why that’ll never happen. The main one I can think of is how do you think the average person will react when you tell them their car will be forced to go a certain speed? Do you think they’ll happily comply with that? No way.

MuphynManIV t1_iydf23t wrote

As the down votes show, even liberal Connecticut has fairly significant carbrain. I don't think it'll happen any time soon.
