Did you ever try any of the Station Modes? It allows you to restrict to a single artist, play deep cuts, new releases, and a discovery mode that specifically matches new tracks to your base selection.

Hm, I didn’t know if that was an option the last time I had Pandora. It’s been a few years and I’ve been overall happy with Spotify. I haven’t used the actual radio in my car in a long time.
