3 days a year package stores are closed and that’s thanksgiving, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day
Alcoholic should have made plans to get wine yesterday. You would have hated it when every package store was closed on Sunday
Wait, you’re angry that stores are closed on a national holiday? Retail workers have families too. Grow up…
Lack of planning in CT is a death sentence.
Did you not read anything before you moved here? The laws are perfectly clear. You're lucky they sell on Sundays.
> You're lucky they sell on Sundays.
Now. And past 8pm.
Better planning.
Yeah that was a bummer in college, missed a lot of drinking because of the 8 pm closing. Worst was Super Bowl Sunday and package closed, had to drive to Massachusetts!
Luckily I was in the Navy during that time. Someone always had alcohol! 🤣
From new York, visiting family for the holidays. Didn't realize I needed to plan this in advance
Did you have to bring anything else (dishes, desserts,ie)to the festivities?
We won't hold back info. No matter where you're from.
I don't know how much you drink, do I.
Rarely. I shouldn't have posted this. I needed to vent. Obviously it invited a bunch of angry responses when I vehemently said "I hate your state"! Anyway. Happy Thanksgiving.
I'm happy you did post this. Truth will always anger someone. Please, be part of the solution.
If you think that’s dumb, go to New Jersey. There are a certain counties where you can’t buy household appliances on Sunday.
If you were closer I might be able to help out but I doubt you’d want to drive an hour for a bottle of wine.
It's tempting. Not having a good bottle of wine on Thanksgiving is sacrilege.
if you were so concerned about having a bottle of wine today, you absolutely would not have waited until today to get one
Why did you wait til the last second.........
Boy, wait till you hear about what our blue laws used to be until a few years ago.
What sucks about PA? Genuine question
If it’s related to the post about buying wine I’m going to venture it’s how their liquor distribution is even more strange too, beer being separate and sold in “deli’s” vs liquor stores that sell wine and spirits.
CT also has the first AA rehab in the nation, coincidence?
Never, empty-handed. Ask ahead.
No, and the dishes will be cleaned before return. You know, just what you would like.
No. All rules are posted. No excuses. Not far to NY. Lol. Or you can go to Las Vegas. They never close. Ct would revolt.
Not at all. No secrets here until it comes to money. Read everything six times. Especially the rules. Ignorance is no excuse. I've paid plenty for mine.
We all hate this stunning state. Taxes too high and don't get me started on rentals. But yet, I came back because I love it. No secrets here.
Holdover from the days when local laws were even MORE Puritan.
It dates back to our Puritan roots. Package stores used to not be allowed to be open on Sunday because of the Sabbath. They changed that awhile ago though; personally I think it should have stayed, not for religious reasons, just for New England Tradition. Anyway you can’t buy alcohol on Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Years Day, in a package store or grocery store.
I think it was only 10 years ago or so they allowed liquor sales on Sunday.
When was this law enacted? I didnt see any law about this?
Explain why you can’t buy a bottle today. I doubt it’s some law.
And as for the rest of the post, I agree. Hartford sucks. I live near New Haven though and I love it and all the food in it
It’s because it’s a law…
What is the law exactly?
No retail sales of alcoholic beverages on thanksgiving (as well as 2 other days)
Holy hell that is stupid. I’ve never heard of that
Until a few years ago retail sales were only allowed 12 hours a day 5 days a week and no holidays
I like new haven

Waaahhh. If I wanted to hear whining, I'd listen to my kids. Make some friends, I'm sure they have some wine.
