What’s up with Route 6? Seems like there’s some bad accident every couple months.

Suicide 6 generally refers to the stretch of 6 from Columbia to Bolton. Our stretch out here from Danielson to Windham has always had its own risk factor but as of late it’s been it’s own life flight creator. The spot where this accident happened has had 2 serious accidents in the last year which is crazy because it’s a fairly straight stretch of road with no passing.

Growing up in Bolton and learning to drive, I was allowed to drive 384 and 84 by my parents way before they felt comfortable letting me on Route 6. It’s a mess.

Still can’t believe that’s the more dangerous one over 44. I feel like I’m going to die driving that road at night.

It's not, it just makes for a good sound bite because both words start with an S.

Note the article that tries to make it out like a really bad stretch of road has to go back to 1995 to make the roughly one death per year on the main commuter highway seem like a large number.

I mean I knew they made improvements to 6 from Bolton to Willimantic back 20 years ago instead of creating an extension of 384/actual 84 and it seemed like it made some changes.

There was supposed to be an expressway from the end of 384 to Providence. Good old Connecticut NIMBYism and an obstructionist EPA killed that project back in the 80's and now Route 6 is a mess. Route 6 continues to be known as Suicide 6 for good reason.
