Already did. It's still slightly more than Eversource current rate, but not double what it's going to be.

I’m leaning towards a company called “Constellation”, right now it’s 16.59 cents per kWh.

Im also about to switch, would like some info from folks on which companies to avoid or which are better, looks like there are 4 main alternate contenders. I was looking at Constellation and Xoom Energy CT (which is the only company based in CT as far as I can tell)

i attempted to switch to constellation last month. hadn't seen anything confirming the supplier switch on my eversource bills so i reached out to constellation and my app had been rejected without any notification to me. the rep did say they would honor the rate on my contract from november, but this still means i'll be paying eversource's trash rate for at least a month while they resubmit :(

though they didn't admit it directly i suspect yes. i had to supply a bunch of information again and i checked my two chat transcripts and it's all matching. i wonder if they just submitted a typo somewhere

I did the math, and switching to Constellation will save me about $45 a month. That being said, it’s hard to say what Eversource will do in future, as they may bring it back down… locking in for 24 to 36 months is a long time - not like locking in home heating oil for a winter season.

I was told that it’s extremely important to read the fine print when looking into other suppliers. A co-worker told me one of the companies was cheaper than the ripoff artists at EverSource but you had to stay with them for a few years.

Has anyone else found this to be true?

Eversource doesn't actually produce electricity anymore. It just procures it on your behalf and resells it to you at cost. So it doesn't make money if you use the supply they offer and doesn't lose money if you switch.

Eversource is legally required to buy evergy on customers' behalf via a process that is designed to minimize energy market price volatility. Energy prices have been high across the board, which is why Eversource had to raise its supply rate.

Some of the alternate suppliers are offering lower rates right now in the hopes you will lock into multi-year contracts and continue paying that rate even when market rates fall below it (at which point you will likely be paying more than Eversource's offer). Although you can switch suppliers any time you want, they are banking on you not noticing when market prices go back down.

So be careful to continue to monitor rates after you switch so that you don't get stuck with a higher rate for years to come.

Here is a pretty good discussion of this: https://ctexaminer.com/2022/12/19/if-youre-thinking-about-leaping-into-the-third-party-electric-market/

When exploring plans on Energize CT they generally will tell you if there are any signup or cancellation fees or other strings attached. Still, the difference right now is so great (<17 cents vs >24 cents per kwh) that I think exploring other options is the way to go.

Update: bit the bullet, today's price for Constellation was 16.59 for 36 months, discount code did not work FYI. still better than the new eversource price.

I just saw natural gas prices are crashing. In Europe they dropped like 80% since their high this year. Its almost certain electricity rates will come way down by July.

>cancellation fees

CT has a law that bans cancellation fees. They're still listed on the site but buried in the docs there's the old "Cancellation fee does not apply in CT".

Just hoping they finally turn on my solar that was installed in October..

Sunrun, but I'm not super impressed.

I got a quote from Trinity for 54k with 2% financing or 35k with cash

A quote from JD Solar for 33k cash

Sunrun was 41k with 2% financing.

All systems were the same size (just over 10k a year)

I wish I got a quote from earthlight

But, I did just get my turn on notice! Of course it can take 2 months for credits to start appearing. But perfect time for spring production!

Your choice of electric supplier is neutral to Eversource: It neither stands to gain nor lose money.

There is definitely money on the table right now, but there is a reason Constellation is dangling below-market prices in front of your nose: It is banking on you switching now, then forgetting to switch back when energy markets normalize and Eversource's offering returns to earth.

So, yes, switch now. But be sure to revisit your choice regularly, especially when Eversource submits its new supply rate, effective July 1.

Its gone way past you.You sound like an Ever source Apologist. How is it like to be an Eversource butt boy?

Making anyone go through a unnecessary torturous path of switching suppliers creates damages.

First they get data from a sketchy company, and second they force the hardship label on you when that sketchy company does their sketchy work.

Then you have to call only to find out that having enough security info to tell them to shut off your power isn't enough to get the hardship removed . They have to send a form by email, then you have to buy a printer, and hope that constellation will honor what eversource blocked.

And its stupid wonder that constellation can do 16 cents, but the smartest distribution company with a giant pool of customers with no switching costs cant get the price below 24 cents.

Why let mere facts get in the way of your opinion?

My agenda was to encourage people to make smart decisions. If you want to switch to save money, great, but you could wind up with the shit end of the stick if you're not careful to compare rates on an ongoing basis.

However, if your motivation to switch has more to do with screwing Eversource, you are not actually screwing them (again those pesky facts), and you could still wind up holding the shit end of the stick.

I generally have a pretty high level of disdain for cowards who throw out personal insults online. If you would like to insult me to my face, DM me and we can arrange the time and place. However, I have reported your post to the mods, whom I believe uphold a higher level of discourse on this sub.
