I've been thinking about getting a pneumatic can smasher to save some space, but I'm not sure if any place accepts cans like that in pre counted bags

Every store is legally required to take any can they sell. They just don't want to because you have to go to the customer service counter for counting.
Crush if you want but the saved space is not worth the hassle.

they make ones that are faster, and if you route the exhaust down to the ejection area, it will kick the crushed one into a bin for you
A simple laser trigger from an old garage door or something like that for detection from a feed chute and you get the reason behind the question.

There are places that will pay by weight, one in wolcott. You won’t get five cents a piece though
