Seems impractical and out of touch with the common person who needs two jobs to make rent.

That is not the common person. Please seek views outside Reddit or whatever site is misinforming you. The average person does not need two jobs.

That would be my coworkers and almost everyone I know in the service industry in my town. This is common at least in my area.

Your area. And not having a degree, even a "bad" one. Maybe you're in an unlucky country.

That's a lot of assumptions. I have a degree, although it is an AS. Many of my coworkers have degrees, some with higher degrees, in STEM and the medical field. I live in Colorado, the US. My town is extremely expensive and many of us haven't had the opportunity to leave it.

Guess I'm helped by what my degree is in (it's a degree where there is a good amount of available jobs, even during an economic crisis)

That's good for you. When I looked for jobs in my field (bioinformatics and genetics) in my area since I have 6 years of lab experience, even with my BS I would have been making half the pay I get now unfortunately.

Yeah software engineering on my side. Guess I gotta be thankful for being able to make the choice to get this one.

Is not "your personal experience."

Than I am in the minority and not common, I apologize for assuming otherwise; I'll inform my single mommies group that they are also in the minority in needing to survive this way.

I completely agree with you. While it's technically correct advice that doesn't mean it isn't totally useless. When I'm in the middle of a 10 hour shift I can't just go take a few hours to recharge lol so it's not practical advice at all. You start resting on the clock and you'll be looking for a new job real fast.
