…Get involved in labour action and mass strikes. “Having a good attitude” is and the the implication that working harder will get you somewhere is complete bullshit.

We need to change the messaging on these ”motivational” trite phrases. It’s not the 90s.

The post doesn’t say anything about having a good attitude. These are all objectively positive things and the fact you’ve managed to find a negative slant says a lot more about your mindset than anything else.

Nonetheless I hope 2023 is your year

Drive to the warehouse, refuse to leave until you have the new couch in hand.

Don't let them tell you it's 6-8weeks.

They have your couch, and they're trying to stop you becoming your ideal you. 😤

Many studies have been done on this. The simplest example is showing a comedy to two groups of people: one group has to hold a pencil between their teeth while they watch and the other doesn't. The group that is forcing a smile-like gesture on themselves because of the pencil will laugh more than the control group.

So yes, the "you should smile more" trope is cringe, but that is obviously not the message in this context. The point is that behavior influences our attitude, not just the other way around. We have more control over our behavior than we do our attitude, so utilize it to your benefit.

yeah, the rest is good advice because it's things that you can more easily do on command. For example, smiling while you're not happy feels weird, but it's doable, and it actually does help.

Do whatever works for you.

You can get excited at will, by using your imagination which everyone has the capability to do. This post is about changing mindset which would lead to feeling excitement more easily. May be tough at first but it's definitely possible at will.

I knew someone would say that. 😊

I’m actually doing better than I’ve been in all my 48 years.

There is an implication that one can “pull themselves up by their bootstraps” in these posts. That can be valuable but there are also increasing systemic forces that prevent people from just “having a good day” and turning things around with their attitude.

The fundamental problem with this kind of message is that it’s wholly unrealistic to do all of these things. However, it’s packaged as if that is the point.

With historic inflation, homelessness, and corruption going on, blind positivity is exactly what led us here. This highly structured list is a stark reminder of “grin and bear it” philosophy.

It’s a product of Capitalism. Make people into more efficient workers by telling them structure and “just do it” are virtuous.

A lot of this I do agree with (take action, make a change).

But…”smile more”? “Go out”?”go to bed and wake up early”?

I’m already dealing with PTSD, depression and autism,I’m already making changes that I feel that I’m ready for, but going out, smiling and waking up early sound like you are putting too much on your plate.

To each their own.

There were some vague studies that came out years ago that claimed going to bed super early and waking up super early led to better health. What it really does is maximizes the time you have to work, or grind as the manosphere touts it. While leaving less time for leisure activities and spending time with your family.

An 8-4 sleep schedule means the only thing you have time to do is, workout, so you’re a better worker and then go to work. Then most 4am ppl brag about working 12 hours a day and boom. One extra cog in the machine.
