A joke on the church in that technically, the payment is equivalent either way, but it is obviously rather rare that God deposits cheques so its not like Donald is likely to pay.

This isn´t as much directed on Trump, he is just known for being a cheapskate. The main joke is on the church that would struggle to deposit a cheque like that. And you should be able to tell that I´m not an American leftist.
