This is actually not bad advice.
The other benefit of being able to cook is that you're able to cook. It's a very handy skill to have, one that can be used to impress and charm your friends, romantic interests, colleagues, family, etc.
It's well known in my social circle that my partner and I can cook extremely well and we use that to host dinner parties and keep our friends amused. If you feed people well, they tend to like you more.
